You will not see me
No matter how hard you stare
Though I’m intangible
You’ll feel me in the air
When you come visit me
Where you all will go
Where stone cold slabs etch out epitaphs
The only place I know

For I’m the Grave Guard
It’s here I’m doomed to stay
Watching over ancestors
In my immortal state

I have seen wars
I have seen plagues
They’re not much different
Well, not in my eyes anyway
I wander round my yard
Much like a dog upon a lead
And after all’s been said and done at longing last
Another scratching left to read

I am the grave guard
It’s here I’m doomed to stay
The time will come for me to watch you
But not today

This existence (if you can call it that)
Is not one to be desired
It makes me wonder: Did I sin?
Why must I burn in silent fire?
There is many of me
In different yards out there
Though you’ll not see us
You’ll feel us in the air
My friend Catherine was reading me some poetry of hers the other day when I came across the term "Grave Guard" that she used. This put a really interesting kind of imagery in my head and I immediately went away to make this song - I finished it last night and so am putting it up here.
I don't think she'll mind If I stole her image.

I'd be interested to hear music put to this. I have no doubt you'll find the right music to put to it =D
